Mumtaz Mufti was born on September 11, 1905 at Batala (Punjab) of India. He was a distinguished writer of Pakistan. He started his early career as a school teacher in the time of englis rule at Sub-Continent. later he started writng the short stories while he was still teacher before the partition of sub-Continent. He died on October 27, 1995.
He wrote two autobiographies, which witnessed his two phases of life. these are commonly very knn books of Urdu literature, named Ali Pur Ka Aeeli and Alakh Nagri.
He was first critisized very much in the early time of his career as a Urdu language writer as he had liberal views but later, after his meeting with Qudrat Ullah Shahab. he changed his writing style and wrote on Sufism.
Later he recieved twoo award by the Govt. of Pakistan which are as follows,
- Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1986
- Munshi Premchand Award in 1989
